English
Nowstamp (날짜도장 in Korean) is a camera app that stamps the date and time on your photos. This page explains what information the app handles.
Summary
- The app does not collect personal data. It has no server, and it sends no information to the developer or to any third party.
- There are no accounts. The app uses no ads, analytics, tracking technologies, or third-party SDKs.
- Your photos and settings are stored on your device, and the app does not send them to the developer or to any third party (see below for iCloud Photos, backups, and sharing).
- The app does not use your location.
Permissions the app uses
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| Camera | To show the live preview on the camera screen and to take photos. Apart from the photos you take with the shutter, nothing the camera sees is saved. The app does not record video or audio (it never asks for microphone access). |
| Photo library | To save stamped photos to your photo library and add them to the “Nowstamp” album in the Photos app, to show the photos in that album inside the app, and to delete them when you ask (iOS confirms each deletion). If you allow Limited Access, iOS does not let the app use the album, so the app does not add photos to it and shows the photos it saved inside the app. If you turn on “Also Save Original Photo”, the unstamped original is saved to your photo library as well. The only photos the app reads from your library are the ones in that album and the ones it saved. If Photos already has an album with the same name, the app uses it as its own album, and the photos already in it appear in the app. |
| Photo picker | When you stamp an existing photo, iOS shows its photo picker. Only the one photo you pick is passed to the app, and no photo library permission is needed. |
| Photo and file picker (Check a Photo) | When you check whether a photo was modified (Settings > Capture Record > Check a Photo), iOS shows its photo picker or file picker. Only the one file you pick is passed to the app. The app reads it on your device to check it and does not save it to your photo library or send it to the developer or any third party. If you pick with the file picker, iOS makes a copy of the file and hands the copy to the app. That copy may remain in the app’s storage as a temporary file; it is removed when you delete the app (iOS may clear it earlier). |
| Face ID / Touch ID / device passcode | Only if you turn on App Lock. The app asks iOS to authenticate you when unlocking and is told only whether it succeeded. It has no access to your face or fingerprint data or your passcode. |
The app does not ask for location, contacts, microphone, or tracking permission.
Information stored on your device
- Settings: camera settings such as flash, timer, aspect ratio, and grid; what happens after capture; haptics; whether App Lock is on; whether capture records are added; the purpose tag currently selected; an identifier that points to the app’s album; and similar preferences. Stored in the app’s storage on your device.
- My Stamps: the look of your stamps (style, font, color, position, size), the text you type, the date and title of the day counter (D-day, Day N), and their names. The stamp you last used is stored in the same place. Stored in the app’s storage on your device.
- Purpose tag list: which tag (Diet, Workout, Study, or Daily) you gave to which photo. Photos are listed by the identifier that points to them inside your photo library. Stored in the app’s storage on your device.
- Capture record signing key: the key used to add a capture record to photos you take. It is created in your device’s Secure Enclave the first time you take a photo with capture records turned on (it is not created while they are off), and the private key never leaves that chip. The app keeps only a reference to the key in your device’s keychain. The key is not transferred to other devices.
- Signing list: the hashes (values that represent a photo’s content) of the photos this device added a capture record to and when each was signed, and the fingerprint and kind of each signing key it used and when it was first used. It is used to decide whether a photo was “Taken on This Device”. Stored in the app’s storage on your device and excluded from device backups.
- Photos: saved to your photo library.
Deleting the app deletes its settings, My Stamps, the purpose tag list, and the signing list. Your photos stay in the Photos app. iOS may keep the keychain item; if it does, the app continues to use the same signing key after you reinstall it.
If you use iCloud Photos or device backups, iOS may store your photo library and app data with Apple’s services. If a photo in the app’s album is stored only in iCloud, iOS downloads it from iCloud when the app shows it, checks its capture record, or shares it. Those are Apple features, and the developer of this app has no access to that data.
Information inside your photos
The metadata (EXIF) of each saved photo records the stamped date and time as the capture time.
Photos taken with this app’s camera contain the capture information that the iOS camera puts into the photo file (for example the device model, lens, and exposure values). The app does not remove it.
The app has no location permission, so photos taken with this app’s camera contain no location data.
If you save a photo with a purpose tag, the tag is recorded in the photo as a single keyword (for example
purpose:diet), so the app can restore your tags after it is reinstalled. If you share the photo, the people you share it with can see that keyword. A tag you change later in the album is kept only in the list on your device; the photo file is not changed.Metadata that is already in a photo you import (such as the camera model and location) is kept in the stamped copy. If you import a photo that has a location, then save or share it, the people you share it with can see that location. Entering the time yourself does not remove the location.
Capture record (off by default). Capture records start out off. You choose whether to turn them on the first time you open the app, and you can change it later in Settings > Capture Record > “Add Capture Record”. While they are on, photos taken with this app’s camera carry a “capture record” in their metadata, so that you can later check that the photo was not modified after it was taken. See the Capture Record page for details. The capture record contains:
- the capture time and its time zone, and the time the record was made
- the date and time text shown on the stamp, and the text you typed
- a hash of the photo’s content (a value that represents the photo; the photo cannot be reconstructed from it)
- the device model (for example
iPhone17,1), and the app version and build number - the public key of this device’s signing key and the kind of key, a random value that differs for each photo, and the signature
It contains no location and no name. Photos taken with the same device carry the same public key. Someone who has several photos taken with this app can therefore tell that they were taken with the same device. The public key does not reveal your name, phone number, or the device’s serial number. If you share a photo, the people you share it with can see its capture record. If you turn the setting off, photos you take afterwards get no record (records already inside saved photo files stay there). Imported photos, and the originals saved by “Also Save Original Photo”, do not get a capture record.
Capture records are checked on your device only. Checking a photo never sends the photo, its capture record, or any key to the developer or to any third party. The check is a technical check that a photo has not changed since it was taken. It is not a legal proof, and it isn’t notarized. The time comes from the device’s clock.
Sharing
When you share a photo, iOS shows its share sheet. You choose which app or person receives the photo, and what happens next is governed by that app’s or service’s policy. The app never sends photos anywhere you didn’t choose.
Children
The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Contact and this web page
- Settings > About > Contact opens the Mail app on your device. If you send an email, your address and message are used only to reply to you.
- This page (nowstamp.app) is served by Cloudflare. When you open it, Cloudflare may process access logs (such as your IP address) under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. The app itself does not open this page (tapping the link in Settings opens it in your browser), and the app has no server that it connects to.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If an update changes what information the app handles, it will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
